Summer Food Service Program
Summer Food Service Program for Children
The Summer Food Service program was created by Congress in 1968. It is designed to provide funds for eligible organizations to serve nutritious meals to low-income children when school is not in session.
Children can enjoy lunches at no charge through the Summer Food Program, a federally funded nutrition program open to all kids aged 1-18 years. No applications are necessary to drop in and all children and teens are welcome. In addition to lunch, some sites offer breakfast and snacks to accompany a day of fun activities.
The Summer Food Service Program makes sure all children can eat healthy food during the summer months when they cannot eat at school. Meals are served at a variety of locations such as playgrounds, summer schools and community centers. Your local site may offer fun activities such as games and art and crafts along with the summer meals at no charge.
This summer meals at no charge are available to all children and teens 1-18 years old. Bring your children or tell a friend: To find the nearest summer meal site, text “FOOD” to 877877 or call 1-866-348-6479 (1-866-3-HUNGRY) or visit www.summerfoodoregon.org
