Psychiatric
Day Treatment/ Partial Hospitalization Program

WHAT IT IS

Psychiatric Day Treatment/Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) is a mental health program, with a focus on mental health treatment including individual therapy, family therapy, medication management, and skills groups. Trained staff support children throughout the day in the therapeutic milieu, and remain with them in the classroom to provide support. Classes are led by teachers from the school district local to the program, and children are encouraged to complete school work in addition to their therapy activities.

WHO WE ARE

We are a multi-disciplinary team of psychiatrists, therapists, mental health treatment staff, and educational specialists working with clients and families to help them understand and manage their mental health needs.

OUR PURPOSE

We are committed to providing effective clinical treatment for children and adolescents struggling to manage mental health symptoms in the home and community.

WHO WE SERVE

We serve children and adolescents, ages 5 – 17, whose mental health difficulties impact their ability to be successful in their homes, schools, and communities.

Our Partial Hospitalization Program is designed for children and adolescents who are either currently receiving frequent and intensive outpatient services, including psychiatric services, or are stepping down from a residential or hospital program.

SERVICES WE PROVIDE

Psychiatric Day Treatment/PHP

Children attend 5-7 hours a day. During this time, children participate in the following:s

  • Medication management with a child psychiatrist or psychiatric nurse practitioner individual and family therapy
  • Treatment groups
  • Group skills training
  • Academic instruction with a licensed special education teacher

All services are clinically directed by Child & Family Therapists and supported by mental health treatment staff.

Therapy

Each child is assigned a Child & Family Therapist, who meets at least once weekly with the client and their family for individual and family therapy appointments

How it is funded

Clients are funded in the Day Treatment/PHP either by their family’s private insurance coverage or by Oregon Health Plan (OHP). Trillium contracts with many different private insurance companies. Please contact your health insurance company to determine if Day Treatment/PHP is covered through your plan. Clients with OHP are often referred through their County Family Care Coordinator, Wrap-Around Coordinator, or other OHP representative.

How we measure success

Each child is given an Individualized Plan of Care, which outlines areas of focus in treatment as well as long- and short-term goals to measure the client’s progress in treatment. Goals are reviewed in a formal meeting to discuss and review treatment progress and potential discharge from Day Treatment/PHP. When treatment goals are met and children graduate from the Day Treatment/PHP, a transition specialist works with the local school districts to ensure successful transitions back to a client’s home school. Transition plans may also include aftercare appointments with a psychiatrist, individual and family therapist, and group therapy, skills training, intensive outpatient treatment, and referrals to a primary care physician.

Trillium’s full array of services

Trillium Family Services offers the complete continuum of care, from prevention to secure inpatient level mental health services. This facilitates seamless transitions and allows children to be treated in the most appropriate, most effective, and least restrictive level of care possible.
