John Donovan has 30 years of experience in public affairs, communication, and resource development roles. He has provided outreach and advocacy services for public, private, and nonprofit entities, both as an employee and as a consultant. John was one of the original founders and a partner of Metropolitan Group from 1989 to 1994. His current work focuses on environmental education, heritage, arts, culture, child welfare, public health and community development. He joined Trillium Family Services in June 2019 as the Senior Vice President of External Affairs and Constituent Relationships.
John has provided strategic communication and outreach consulting to clients across the country. He coordinated a national shared agenda-setting process for Enterprise Community Partners that engaged more than 25 national environmental and community development organizations. He also provided strategic communication, resource development, and positioning services for Lewis & Clark College, Oregon Health & Science University and Sustainable Northwest, a rural economic development nonprofit helping small communities integrate environmental and economic strategies.
More recently, John served as project manager for a comprehensive $46 million resource development effort for Vernonia’s K-12 schools, and for a groundbreaking community outreach effort to support the Portland Harbor Superfund cleanup effort. He was the project manager of a strategic positioning effort for Trillium Family Services, Oregon’s largest provider of children’s mental health services. He has also provided strategic communication and outreach for Oregon Tobacco Prevention and Education Program and Kitsap Regional Library System in Southwest Washington; for Metro’s Regional Transportation Plan program; and a new industrial air quality program for Oregon DEQ through a statewide engagement program, “Cleaner Air Oregon”.
