Keep Oregon Well is a public advocacy campaign designed to reduce stigma surrounding mental and behavioral health, build a trauma-informed community, and give people the opportunity to learn more about mental health and stand with those struggling with theirs.
This ongoing volunteer spotlight blog series features some of the many caring, talented, passionate people it takes to spread the word about Keep Oregon Well throughout Oregon!
Keep Oregon Well Volunteer Spotlight on: Diana & Larry Geraghty
Why does mental health matter to you?
Mental health matters to us because we both have ADD and know so many people suffer with all kinds of mental illnesses. We wanted help spread the word of metal health awareness and be apart of an organization that is helping the community.
What initially made you want to volunteer with Keep Oregon Well?
We initially found out about Keep Oregon Well at a job fair. We had recently moved to Oregon, we knew it would be a great way to help and get to know new people. The Keep Oregon Well Street Team is comprised of so many amazing folks! We are so glad we got involved and had the opportunity to get connected to the community.
Tell me about your favorite volunteer experience?
Our first volunteer event was the H20 Show at the Portland Waterfront. We did not know anyone when we arrived and by the end of the night we had made some amazing friends. Not only that, we got to go backstage and meet Everclear, The Wild Feathers, Greg Holden and Barns Courtney!
Keep Oregon Well is centered around wellness and self-care. Tell us about some of the ways you take care of yourself.
We take care of ourselves by getting out and hiking or biking. When it is too cold to be outside we work out in the gym. We also really enjoy preparing healthy meals together.
