Certified Medication Aide – PCCLocation: Portland - Parry Center for Children

Job Summary: The Certified Medication Aide will be responsible for providing safe and accurate medication administration to TFS clients and provide appropriate and timely documentation regarding all aspects of medication delivery. Participates in performance improvement and Health Services activities.

|Demonstrates the ability to identify behaviors that require intervention and notifies RN/MD when further evaluation is warranted.|
|Able to physically intervene with aggressive patients/clients and provide restraint and seclusion when ordered. Use NCI/CPI and APT techniques appropriately. Follows procedures and protocols|
|Possesses the skills of verbal de-escalation and/or validation, able to avoid power struggles with patients/clients. Sets limits for patients/clients.|
|Performs all aspects of patient/client care in an environment that optimizes patient/client safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.|
|Determines unit supplies and maintenance needs and submits requisitions as indicated.|
|Documentation meets current standards and policies; documentation meets standards for licensure and accreditation.|
|Acts as a role model for patients/clients through behavior, speech and appearance.|
|Is emotionally and physically stable to work with the clientele, model self-care skills and assist the patient/client in meeting his/her goals.|
|Maintains collaborative working relationships with co-workers as well as with other departments/disciplines.|
|Interacts with supportive services to ensure that a safe, clean and secure environment is provided for patients/clients, staff and visitors. Documents unusual incidents.|
|Treats patients/clients and families with respect and dignity.|
|Follows facility’s policies and procedures.|
|Completes other duties as necessary and assigned by RN’s.|
|Stays current with changes in the field through continuing education, conferences, professional societies and journals. Current with agency trainings.|
|Demonstrates the ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.|
|Will safely and accurately administer oral (including inhalers), sublingual, buccal, otic, ophthalmic, nasal and topical medications (including patches and transdermal medications).|
|Will administer PRN medications from established Standing Orders and Physician’s Orders.|
|Will assess clients for medication efficacy, side effects, adverse reactions and withdrawal effects and document as needed in client’s electronic record.|
|Will verbalize and demonstrate knowledge of medications and target symptoms|
|Will maintain accurate and timely documentation of medications administered, medications refused or medications withheld on the individual client’s Medication Administration Record (MAR).|
|Will maintain accurate documentation of all Controlled Substances according to State and Federal guidelines.|
|Will complete and document accurate count of all controlled substances with another Medication Specialist at the beginning and end of each shift.|
|Will maintain storage areas, including medication carts and medication administration supplies. Will ensure and maintain proper labeling of medications and treatment supplies.|
|Will maintain unit first aid supplies, including first aid kits.|
|Will participate, as directed, in the Pharmacy Liaison Committee meetings on a monthly basis.|
|Will provide other competencies as directed by supervisors within the scope of training.|
|Will maintain a collaborative working relationship with Physicians and Health Services/Nursing staff|
|Will be flexible with duties and requirements of job as they may evolve.|
|Will understand and comply with standards from TFS licensing and accreditation entities.|
|Adheres to dress code; appearance is neat, clean and professional.|
|Maintains regulatory requirements.|
|Maintains patient/client confidentiality at all times.|
|Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work within designated time.|
|Wears identification while on duty;|
|Completes all training required for position. All training is complete and up to date.|

|Attends staff meetings; reads weekly staff meeting minutes, COM logs, ABD’s, CARDEX notes.|

Supervisory Responsibilities: None
Education: High school graduate or equivalent. Has current OSBN CMA license; Preference given to applicants with Associate, Bachelor’s degree. May substitute education and experience.
Experience: Experience working in a psychiatric/behavioral health treatment facility preferred, preferably with children or adolescents.
Job Knowledge: Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Additional languages a plus.
Skills: Basic computer knowledge for the implementation of patient/client information electronic record keeping.
