Cook’s Helper

Location: Portland - Parry Center for Children
Program/Department: Dietary
Schedule: 40 hours/week - Tuesday thru Saturday - 9am to 5:30pm
Pay Range: $16.54/hour

Job Summary:  Responsible for providing the complete preparation, service and cleaning of all items associated with the salad bar and for assisting the cooks as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Demonstrates Competency in the Following Areas:  
Prepare salad bar foods, dressings, and condiments for lunch and dinner meals; restock and keep the salad bar clean throughout service;
Monitor temperatures on salad bar items;
Portion foods for individual service;
Bake and decorate cakes;
Prepare between meal snacks;
Assist in set up of serving line under the direction of the cook as requested;
Assist in serving food to and interacting positively with children, staff and guests during meal times, including meal delivery and pick-up;
Count and record daily meal attendance;
Assist in food preparation and cooking as needed;
Assist in providing food for miscellaneous agency event as requested;
Maintain a clean, safe kitchen and serving areas, using the required sanitary techniques, products and equipment;
Dishwashing;

Additional Responsibilities:  Participate in agency meetings as required. Other duties may be assigned.

Education: Degree not required

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Current Food Handler’s CardExperience: Experienced in preparing and portioning large quantities of food, salad preparation and cake decorating experience helpful.

Job Knowledge: Performs routine tasks within the Trillium Family Services policy and procedure, the requirements of the job description, local, state and federal law, rules and regulations, and accepted standards and practices for food services operations. Skills: Must be able to read recipes and adjust contents as needed for size of group.
